Hi

Good point, can people please include the county in the name of the mark being fished, as (a) people might not be familiar with specific marks and (b) in many cases placesnames are repeated around several counties... I've fished stradbally in waterford, kerry, clare and donegal over the years and I am told there is one in louth as well! All poor mind!

Time spent fishing is never time wasted...

2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks

We definitely need to talk!!!!

Mind you we're fishing the September comp is Gowlane, and it's only a stones throw from there, so you'll see for yourself if things go well! ( although now that I have said that, I can guarantee it will end up being a bright sunny day with no surf and we'll catch shag all!!!).

Stradbally fishes very well just at the top of the tide but the key is distance. You have to cast no more than 10-15 feet tops as the Bass are usually right under your feet. We found this out by accident one night. One of the lads tried a cast in what looked like a ridiculous amount of water and immediately had a bite. Turned out to be small whiting. He took a few when all of a sudden they stopped and the next cast the rod doubled over. We had 30 mins of 4Ib'ers one after another before they moved on. Bait was razorfish. We thought it was a fluke but we have had similar results on similar tides. Usually hight at 11 and with even a moderate surf.

If you are fishing at distance try tieing a single hook to a snap swivel using a snood of about 2ft to your line baited up and allow it to slide down into the water. This will allow you to fish both 40-50 yards out and also right in front of you.
