Howth (various marks)

#1 Post by Wes »

People: Myself and nephew

Duration:10am - 3pm

Tide:In, turning.

Weather: Calm, nice then turned windy followed by heavy haze.

Bait: Mackeral, Hokkai

Rigs: 1 up 1 down

Results: 3 dab, 2 pollock, 43 macks.

Report:

Started out a lovely day, shame it changed for comfort reasons, but with the change it brought the catch :D

One hour after arriving, we had nothing except a wink and a wave from a couple of seals :? After that, it took off. Dab came on the mack bait, the pollock came on pollock feathers and the macks came on the hokkai. cast after cast they were jumping in. Kept some for the freezer and a couple for the pan which were gorgeous.

One thing I did see was a couple doing the howth trek with a child in the buggy, yes a buggy. Newbies to the trek im sure, still, must have been a pain for the person pushing.

Talking to a few lads heading for Balscadden on the way to the car, they mentioned the charter from the pier to Irelands Eye. €5 return they said, first boat at 10, last at 7. Anyone know if this is right?
