reel line

#1 Post by col »

Around Easter time I bought a small f/s reel from the states, a nice little okuma epixor at around 40euro 8) (way more expensive in UK).
Did a fair bit of research into it to be sure and get the correct reel. One place said it held 110 yrds of 6lb line, another said 90yrds, so I contacted okuma(as it was important to me) and they said it holds 110 of 6llb mono.

The place I bought it from also loaded it with 110 yrds of 20lb power pro at a cost of about half a 300yrd spool.
Got the reel (full to the lip with braid) and it says it holds 110yrds on the spool.

So all was great till I used it for the 4th time and emptied the spool of line with a cast which was nowhere near even 80yrds. When I got home I measured it out and turns out there is only 43yrds  of braid on it.

Whats the story here? Are line capacities normally way over-rated?
Is there any easy way of finding out if it really is 20lb on the spool?Or if the spool does only hold 40yds of 6lb(surely not)?
I bought 300yds of 30lb PP from same place.

Any help or info would be much appreciated,
col
