dingle peninsular

#1 Post by BRAD »

Hi all,

Myself and two friends have just returned from a two week shore fishing trip to the Dingle peninsular , here follows a brief report.

Dunmore head had some good Wrasse up to 4lb5oz from the North side with nearly all over 3lb , some small pollack up to 2.5lb.

Slea Head excellent Pollack fishing with redgills fish to 6.5lb with loads of 3-3.5lb.Wrasse to just under 4lb , odd coalfish to 1.5lb , plenty of mackerel.

Trabeg , I had 3 Turbot all 1lb each on my first 3 casts around low tide one morning ,my mate had 1 + a few Flounders , returned to fish the same tide the next day , same weather and we all blanked!!.

Dingle lighthouse , lots of Thornbacks to 7lb and the odd pollack.

Ventry strand , I hadn't caught a Bull Huss in Ireland for 10 years then catch 2 in two casts!! , had a dogfish on the other hook an both casts too. Huss were 3.25+4lb.Had two Thornbacks 3.5+6lb here too as well as the usual plethora of Dogs.

Cuan pier, Conger to 7lb flounder , Dogs and very small Pollack.

Dingle Harbour (breakwater fishing towards boats ), Conger to 14.5lb , Ballan Wrasse to 3.75lb , Goldsinny Wrasse , Pouting and Gobbies.

Inch , one Bass of 6.5lb which my friend caught on a light spinning rod & krill lure , he also had a 1.5lb Sea Trout.I had two Thornbacks 12lb7oz & 7lb5oz.

Castlegrgory Trench. One Herring Gull which took a lump of Mackerel and put up a spirited fight for 15 minutes , no fish though.

Castlegregory fishing from the road.Where are the Rays?????.The 3 of us fished this venue hard on two occasions and only caught Dogs. This time last year on each session we had 3 od 4 Small eyed Rays each and the occasional Thornie. This year not a sniff of a Ray , very odd , anyone any ideas???

Derrymore Strand. One small stinger 3.5lb and dogs.Again we fished this beach 3 times and saw no other rays.

Derrymore Island.Lots of weed and odd dogfish.Saw some Garfish Jumping , how we failed to catch one is still a mystery to us.

Fenit Pier.Fished the end for species during the day to raise our spirits ,we had 2 Corkwing Wrasse,Silver Eels ,Flounder,Gobbies,Dab and a very small Stinger.
We fished the flood tide from low to high water from the viaduct peg 13-15 until Midnight and all we caught was Dogs sadly no rays again to be fair it was very windy. We really wanted to catch an Undulate Ray as none of us had previously caught one , still there is always next year.

Brandon plenty of Mackerel and odd Pollack which fell to our 'feathers'.

Hope this helps anyone planning on fishing any of the above venues , would be interested in hearing about any reports of trips to the area , and where we can latch onto some Rays next year!.
