People:Myself and my partner Cathy.

Duration:First 2 weeks of June

Tide:All states of the tide

Weather:Best 2 weeks weather in Ireland since 1976- WOW !

Bait:Frozen sandeel, fresh rag, white-rag, lugworm, fresh mackeral,peeler. Spinners and Hokkai.

Rigs:Float, spinner. Simple one hook rigs for heavy ground,
running leger for sand.

Results: Fished a wide variety of marks all around our chosen area:

Toormore ; Crookhaven Coastguard slip, Galley Cove, Barley Cove,
Valid Creek, Tour Pier, rock marks on Sheepshead , Bantry Airstrip
beach, rock marks on Beara , Dursey Sound, Ballydonegan.

Species caught : dogfish, huss, thornbacks, coalfish, pollock, wrasse, mackeral, flounder.

Nothing huge, but plenty of decent pollock and wrasse. White-rag on the float proved very sucessful.Towards the end of our stay
mackeral were plentiful.

My favourite mark was Valid Creek, near Barley Cove. Fishing onto mixed-ground, you never knew what was going to turn up :
a couple of rays, huss and the biggest mackeral I have ever seen,
it must have weighed 2 1/2 pounds !
Pollock to 5 pounds put a good bend in my 30 year old 10 ft spinning rod, as did the wrasse, but there were less than I expected.
What a fantastic mark and not another angler in sight !
I shared it on a couple of ocassions with some dolphins
and I'll never forget how a seal made his presence known :
the sea exploded, with mackeral flying in all directions !

However, the most memorable moment was at Dursey Sound, when something "very big" swam idly past- no idea what it was, but it was "big" ! The sunset and the view over towards the Skelligs
"was to die for" !

I am sorry if this report is a bit general and perhaps even verging
on the romantic, but it is only once a year, so ...................

believe me we know it. we've met 1 angler at a venue we've fished in the past year. dont realise how lucky we are.

Green wouldn't describe how envious I am :cry: . I did some spinning off the rocks to the right hand side of the beach behing the pub in Crookhaven. I gave up after a half an hour of decimating the local pollack population. There was nothing less than 3lb and many far bigger.

Great to see someone getting amazing fishing. It's a wonder it's not marketed more to tourists.
