whitehead promenade.

i was just reading thru the shore marks and was interested in whitehead promenade. i've never fished it, its not too far to travel for me and it sounds like it has a good mixture of species. but i noticed it also says it fishes well from late august on! if anyone local could let me know if i should give it a miss till late summer it would be appreciated. a recent report would be even better!! :D

Not too sure what everyone else thinks but I only fish it when I am too lazy to drive elsewhere. It is a mark that tends to throw up some decent fishing though it is unusual to get anything of any size off it. Usually small coalies, wrasse, codling, whiting and dogs.

The ground itself is quite rough so best not to fish with anything less than 15 lb mainline though 18 to 20 would be better. Range not really important as the fish are small they tend to be at your feet.

oh dear, i'll maybe have a re-think on going then. its a shame coz i could get there in no time. i love fishing the coast from glenarm onwards but it really is a camel-ride from where i live!! heard a couple of reports on blackhead and it sounds ok. could be worth a bash. thanks 4 being honest and letting me know lee.

Hi Rab,

Maybe some of the others have a different opinion of the promanade but I personally am not a huge fan. Hopefully some of the others will post their opinions and give a more balanced view.

In honesty it sounds like you could expect more from a more Local mark... Ever thought of trying Greys point, Crawfordsburn Beach, Or even the Beach at Holywood? Surely they're all worth a Bash, If all else fails why don't you try Donaghadee! :lol:

havn,t fished it for years my self but what i do remember is fish infront of the old peoples home.night is usually best .but best off all you can sit in the car and watch your rod when its wet. my uncle fished it 3 weeks ago small coalies and doggies .ps the rougher the better

hi drew, grew up fishing holywood beach, week in week out. unfortunately its just too polluted. u still get ur mullet and flounder around the shore but its not great fishing chum. i fish greys point every year for mackerel from the rocks, was only saying yesterday that it could be worth feathering!! bar mackerel there is only small pollock and coalies off there and the occasional doggie. haven't ever fished crawfordsburn beach so i can't comment on there and i will be hitting the dee pier at some stage this summer! how's it fishing anyway? thanks big g for ur report, always believe where there's small fish, there's gonna be big ones there somewhere. :)

sounds good. haven't fished the dee pier in a couple of years but i always caught there. as u say lots of doggies, but i remember catching a pouting of around a pound weight which is a good catch anywhere. i've improved so much and would love to hit the dee again. unfortunately there isn't much chance in bumping into u lads, i fish really early tides rather than evening tides. but i'll certainly post a report when i do go. drew, u ever beach fished millisle?

No mate, I haven't Properly fished Millisle, Never heard of anyone doing so, and catching fish. lol

Sure any time ur heading to the Dee give me a shout and I'll try and get down.
