WEST PIER DUN LAOGHAIRE

#1 Post by Richie07 »

Anyone fished here recently?,I'm talking about near the top around the back fishing out into the bay.Haven't fished here in a long time and was wondering if it's worth my while checking it out one of these evenings or would it be a waste of time?.

Thanks in advance.

Richie.

Hey Richie

I fished off the wall on the west pier last thursday, caught 2 small plaice on rag & a dogfish on sandeel. My 2 mates pulled in 7 small plaice between them on rag. We were fishing a low tide with it going out (ebb I think it's called).

It was my first time fishing dun laoghaire in years so cant say any more really.

Hope that helps

Hi

Dredging up from memory, I think some people fished into the harbour around the old lightship (if it is still there), again mainly for plaice. I've also had reports of gurnard on the seaward side and a dragonet - I only mention the last one on account of the poisonous spines around the dorsal fin and gill covers - beautiful looking fish but just be careful handling one if you are lucky enough to catch them. Rag on small hooks will work...

2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks
