A bit of an embarassing question but how do you put line on fixed spools. I always spooled the line off rolling a the line off a pencil as you would a multiplier but I got fireline braid a couple of years ago and the instruction with it stated to let the line come off the spool with the label facing upwards. Looking through all my sea mags they either describe one way or the other for doing it.

Donagh,
the pencil method is not a good way with a fixed spool.....you need to wind it on to the reel as it comes off the end of the plastic spool that hold the line...make sure it comes off and goes on to the reel in the same direction....if you start off wrong...its easy put right, just turn the line spool the other way up.
I hope you understood all of than   not even sure if I do

Donagh,
If you use the pencil method it can give the line a double memory...if its light line, like say 6lb or 8lb test it will be a nightmare.
Another thing to watch out for with ultra light line, say below 10lb test, is the tension its put onto the reel....to tight and it can burst the spool overnight....I can send you a couple of photos to prove it..to much tension means the line will stretch as it goes onto the reel spool and after it settles it will contract very tightly.....not that much of a problem if you put 300yds or 400yds of 15lb line....this means the same spool will hold about 20% more at least if the line if below 10lb....thats where the crush comes from.
