Kayak + fishing

#1 Post by out_of_office »

A group from work are heading kayaking in an hour. I have a light travel rod in the car. Has anyone tried fishing from a kayak? Any tips? It'll be my first time kayaking!
I'll just be spinning if the guys running the trip are sound about me bringing the rod. Low water 10.30, High water 16.30 - Kinsale area.

Cheers Ray,
After looking at that forum I just trolled an eel bar behind. Not that I'd have had a chance to do much casting. Would try a diving plug the next time, the eel bar sat fairly high in the water even at our pace.

Headed out with an outfit called H2O Extreme. Nice stable kayaks - the type that you sit right into rather than the open kind that you sit on. Headed out from the Dock bar, round James' Fort, over to Charles Fort, back thru the Kinsale side of the harbour. Great craic in the sun - only one fish though! Good size mack, caught in front of the holiday homes between Kinsale and the Bulman pub. Saw a good few bottom fishing off a point near there.
