Recently I've found that when I try to unhook fish, especially doggies with a discorger the trace line is snapping. Resulting twice in having to leave the hook in (I absolutely hate doing this) as it was not in reach of hand.
Is this happening because I'm using the discorger wrong, or might it be my snood line is too light? Any other reasons why? I normally crush barbs to make unhooking quicker and easier.
Thanks,

I would say your snood line is a bit too light mate, what do you use? Its worth stepping up a bit if its LSDs your targetting as their skin and gums can grind through lighter stuff easily from time to time. I use 20lb amnesia or similar in general. If you really cant get the hook out, take a pair of wire cutters with you and snip the hook as far down the shank as you can. I know noone wants to see a fish go back with a hook in it but its better than a dead fish. I have on several occasions caught doggies with the remnants of a hook in their mouth so it doesnt seem to put them off too much! A pair of decent forceps or long needle nosed pliers can also help, LSDs can be a bugger to get the hook out of on occasion. Using a fairly fine wire hook can help also as there is a bit of give in them.

Thanks for the info Sandman and pete, I've tried forceps and pliers but find I get on best with either my hands or a dicorger but I'l definitely bring my long nose forceps from now on also as this may help if the snood breaks.
I would normally use 20/25lb memorx but I lost the spool and haven't had the chance yet to replace it, so I tied up a few rigs with 20lb Teklon mainline for traces. This is probably unsuitable and part of the problem
