At the moment when crabbing I'm getting plenty of softies but not that many peelers. Is it the time of the year, or is anyone else finding this.
Also just wondering how effective the softies are in comparison to say the peelers for species like smoothhounds and wrasse, when bound on to the hook and cast at distance, not used a livebait in close?

Hello alby.
How goes it. any fishing since our last meet.
Having the same (problem). A lot of softies but not that many peelers. I find that it is better to have them than no crab but the peelers stand head and shoulders over softies.
As peelers (female) give of scent To attract males. This is when they pair up. As softies they have gone past this and have a high water content. this means that they wash out much quicker.
