Bass - East Coast NI
I was just wondering if anyone has heard of Bass being caught through the years my general area, talking about say from Strangford, up around the coast of north Down, around Belfast Lough to say Islandmagee. I'm just trying to figure out their distribution more accurately would be interested in hearing of ANY caught around these areas, it's definately a fish i would love to catch someday but would more than likely have to travel to get any chance of them at all. One of the security guards in a local shopping centre recently claimed to have caught two "sea bass" [:x - that term annoys me greatly, dunno why!] in the Bangor area, i passed it of quietly as nonsense...

Is this near you?
Hello,
I don't know why either but that term also really irritates me. I don't know what it is. Anyway down to some more important stuff. I don't know if Benone Strand, Co. Derry is near you but I got a report sent to me a week or two back of a good number of bass being caught here. I'm not sure the Bass ban from the 15th May - 15th June applies to the waters off this coast but either way it might not be a bad idea to put your bass trip off until after 15th June. This is the bass spawning season and it helps maintain the already depleted stocks. Here is a link to that report I got. Scroll down to the very bottom. It's only a one liner.

Let me know how you get on and the very best of luck.
