Ballymoney 27-May-2006

#1 Post by RobertMcClean »

People: Myself and Philip Fox

Duration: 4 Hours

Tide: Ebb to Flood

Weather: West to South West Winds

Bait: Rag, Mackerel, Sandeel, Razor

Rigs: Three Hooks Paternosters

Results: 8 Smoothies, 2 Tope, 80+ Dogs, 30+ Dabs, 3 Flounder & 1 Tub Gurnard.

Report: With a few hours to kill myself and Phil headed for our old haunt Ballymoney south beach. It has never failed us in the past and with the previous weeks’ easterlies and southerlies we were silently confident of a few fish with the colored water. We picked our mark north of the tiny stream which enters the beach in the hope of a few flounders and some mini summer species.

It was hectic from the off, fishing in close threw up a double sand dab and a smoothie on my first cast. After that it was double or trebles every cast. It was nice to see the Juvenile Smoothies and Tope making an appearance as they do this time of the year, however once we cast beyond 15 yards its was dog after dog. I even managed to catch a double dog on a 1 Hook Pennell rig  . They were everywhere. Using short snoods caught the trebles; using long snoods caught the doubles with the second dog engulfing the spare snood, greedy buggers. In any event it was a pleasant session which rekindles the summer feeling and hopes of what lies ahead this....

Huge Smoothie!!!!!

Good report Robert,

Nice to see those little fellas at any time, hope they go and tell the big brothers about the nice man who put him back in the water.
