I don’t know if anyone has read this months sea angler magazine June it might just be out today but it has some good reviews in it this month and a good bit in it about bass fishing with plugs. Has anyone done any of this type of fishing in Ireland I think it could be good fun fishing for bass with a spinning rod and plugs I also think that you might even get one or two Pollack this way also could be wrong. I am mostly interest in Northern Ireland fishing spots I am thinking of maybe going down south for a fishing trip later in the year so all help is good. Reading what it says in magazine one or two spots up the Antrim coast popped in my mind one is my all time favourite mark to fish Garron point for the guys that fish it some times will know the spot I am thinking of the small ledge that people spin and float fish on to the left of that are rocks at low tide you can see them well but at high tide most of the rocks are under water and the water is white it seems to fit the kind of place your man was saying in the magazine to a TEA has anyone and I mean anyone got a bass of Garron point doesn’t mater if it was 10 or 20 years ago I would like to know please. And if anyone has any info on this type of fishing please let me know.

alri m8 :wink: i done a bit of plugin on graystones south beach last year thats in co.wicklow and i had a good few bass :D my biggest was 4.5lbs its not that big buts its a great fight..

Yep. Plugging for bass is very common. I find it the most reliable way of producing large bass in daylight around here. I can't remember when we first started using plugs for bass around here. Probably over 10 years ago. Surface poppers (pictured) more recently. I still prefer my trusty Rapala J13S but they're so feckin expensive I've been known to mount serious rescue missions to retrieve lost plugs from rocks. Fishing the plug through shallow rocky weedy patches usually produces fish.

Must keep an eye out for that article you spotted.

I do a lot of plugging for bass down on the Waterford coast and it is the only way to go IMHO. Not only has it produced large numbers of big bass for me but when fishing surface poppers like the one in the pic you get to see the take.
The area you described sounds perfect. Just hope you come to enjoy it as much as I do.

thats what i like to hear... started plugging this year, havent caught anything yet but a trip down the south east coast is planned for later in the year....

Hi Merv

It has been used as a tactic in Northern Ireland with success recently for example around the rocks between the railway bridges at Benone... and interestingly it has worked when all other tactics, i.e. very bait imaginable, has failed. A word of caution, there are days when you would swear there is not a fish in the sea!!! :wink: But that said, it's a fantastic way to fish, no only do you see the take, you often see the fish following the lure well beforehand, especially in calmer warmer days...

if you want to learn about lure fishing for bass buy your self a copy of hooked on bass by m ladle /s pitts classic book on the subject.or go to operation sea angler .co .uk site everything you need to know is on it .but beware once you start you will get hooked it is a drug no known cure.

Anyway I was wandering if any other types of fish can be caught using plugs like Pollack or Coles or is it just bass. And also has anyone got a good web site that sells plugs if so please leave me a link its something I am very keen to try it sounds like good fun and I love fishing light and over rough ground. :)

I have the new Ron Thompson Stratocaster Spin Rod coming from mikes tackle shop in England they have it on sale for £26.99p witch isn’t bad and if you add £10 you get the Okuma Spectrum spinning Reel+ 4oz spool of Ultra Max nylon Add just £2 to rod price to have it supplied in a new Heavy Duty Cardboard tube that’s £38.99p for a complete spinning out fit witch isn’t bad I think I will leave a link in case some one is looking for a new rod this rod was rated in the total sea fishing magazine last month and got a high score to 9/10 I think for a rod under £50 you cant be bad to that like.

i will not get it till late June tho so that might put you of but hey i got a free cap for my troubles a mustad one they sell for £5 and i think that was nice of them

I bought some great plugs from Peter Noone - he's on the forum. They are a good quality selection and reasonably priced. He had a display at the angling show a couple of years back and I bought 6 off him.

there price is very good euro-tackel i was looking on the web there for some veals mail order do some good ones http://www.veals.co.uk some are a bit high in price but they look like good qulaty
