ballycastle area / and cushendun beach sun 7/5/06

#1 Post by rab 525 »

People:me + jh

Duration:b/castle 13.30-17.00/cushendun 18.30-21.30

Tide:high 20.30

Weather:sunny ,s/e wind

Bait:deep spun sandeel,rag,mack+squid

Rigs:running ledger,2 hook pats+ float gear

Results:pollack smallest 2lb and largest 4lb

Report:decent days fishing at ballycastle :D best fish caught fell to guy on next rock to me a pollack of 5-6lb  most fish fell for dark jelly worm with a red or pink tail.
on the way home called in to cushendun which was very poor which was maybe due to trawlers towing that day across the bay  . best bite came as we were walking along the beach in a semi bored state when i got a shout that there was something on my rod thrashing about , it looked like a dog double shot or else a cracking fish only to end up as a small black + white type of diving duck tangled up in my line  which when beached crapped out about 20 sandeels so in the end we had plenty of bait :?
thanks to davy +ronald for the mark

hi davy ,
the day we were there, there was 6 other guys there ,2 locals who fish it regular and 4 from belfast direction judging by the accents.
the 2 locals said they had caught pollack to 13lb before and the other 4 were there because they heard a rumour of a 17lb :o that week of the mark. wasn;t expecting to meet any other anglers at this mark but it looks like word of it is getting around which won;t help the fishing but then again you couldn;t walk to it very often unless you were training for everest :D :D
