Woodstown Strand

#1 Post by bovenip »

People: Myself, Eoinee & Kiwi Pete

Duration: 5:30 to 11:30

Tide: End of the rise & Start of the drop

Weather: Mixed

Bait: Lug & Rag

Rigs: 2 hook flappers

Results: 8 flounders

Report: We headed down to Waterford for 12:00 noon and fished the rocks at Dunmore East whilst waiting for the tide to come in a bit, resulting in a red cod of about 1.5lbs for Kiwi Pete and not much else for the rest of us. We then headed to the rocky cove on the extreme left of Woodstown Strand for the end of the rise (we'd taken a walk on the beach earlier at low tide and noticed a nice channel 50 yrds out from here)

We set our gear up inside the cove, knowing that the tide was going to cut us off for a couple of hours but not worrying too much about it coz we were planning to stay till around 8:30ish - unfortunately we got the tides wrong! We ended up stranded there till 11 fecking 30 in the rain with our headlamps safely tucked away in the boot of my car...

At least the flounders were obliging - the last 2 hours of the rise brought a reasonable amount of fish (7 for me and 1 for Eoinee with 2 double-shots) and they were all a good size except for one. Once it got dark we struggled - we were trying to fish using the lights on our mobile phones, so needless to say thing disimproved until we could finally get back to our cars.

Hello bovenip.
When you say the rocky cove how far were you fishing from the end of the beach (where you get cut off on high water).

Hiya Coaster,
We parked in the small carpark at a pub/caravan park and then walked down to the beach and headed left back in the direction of Waterford city. We stopped at a small outcrop of rocks with a small cove (about 50ft from end to end). It was about half a mile from where we parked...

Cheers bovenip.
I brought the kids out there about the same time and fished about 200 yards right of there hoping to give them some sport but not a bite.
