Handy Rod Rest
If you dont have a tripod or other rod rest use one of the short iron poles builders use to hold up surrounding orange nets of newly laid paving. They have a handy curve at the top of them. Only when they are finished with them of course

these are heavy things George! is it ok to take the corpo's stuff? there was some piping along the clontarf seafront there a while back, it would make a nice 2 rod + tripod holder. it's perfect but the last thing you want is to be out fishing and being harassed by some authurity figure....maybe i should just by some drainage pipe. anyone know how much this stuff costs (i need a 7foot lenght)?

draining pipe
There is no need to pay for piping. You can pick some up for free in skips or scrap yards.

piping problems
Many tackle dealers now carry a range of aluminium monopods and tripods which represent an excellent alternative to piping - usually cheaper too.
