Hi,
Does anyone know where I could get some lug or rag on the west coast?Sligo or Donegal is closest to me. I've looked around the Mullaghmore area but just cant find any. I've never dug for them before so any advice would be much appreciated.

fist thing you need when digging lug is a good pitch fork... the longer the prongs the better, make sure its a stainless steel one as well because salt water corrosion will eat away normal steel fast...
digging them is quit easy, find the squiggle of sand an its matching hole, imagine a line between them and start 6 inches away from the imaginary line and get the prongs to lift the area between the hole and the squiggle of sand, and you should be lucky enough to get lug worm or two...
dont even attempt to use a shovel or spade, its the quickest way to put your back out of action for a while...
best time to look for lug marks is on a spring low tide....

lugworm on the west coast
Plenty on the north shore of Donegal Bay between Donegal town and Mountcharles - bound to be present on the south side of the bay too

Hi Richard
On the front of the website, there is a downloadable PDF brochure on all baits including how to dig, store and present lugworm. Follow this link: -

There is lugworm and ragworm available nears the port/docks in Sligo - if you do a search (see up near Album) and use Sligo and lug or rag as the key words, you should be able to get the directions to the location...

Time spent fishing is never time wasted...
2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks
