A local pier

#1 Post by MC »

I fancied a go at the rays so after I picked the wife up from work I got the car packed and was away. Its only a 20 minute drive from my house to his swilly pier so I was suited and booted and fishing by midnight. Now I was expecting a bit of wind and some rain but after the first cast my tripod blew over, thankfully there was no damage to the rods, but the wind was getting stronger so I ended up lashing the tripod to the railings. Spotting bites was difficult and baits came back striped so at least the crabs where getting fed, but I did manage to hook a tiny dogfish. Blank beaten so out went fresh baits in the hope of a ray, meanwhile the rain started it wasn't bad at first but soon became a torrent. At this point there was a lot of floating weed about and it was getting caught on the line added to the strong wind and horizonal rain I decided to pack up early after 3 hours of s*** weather I was getting battered by the wind and rain. So wound in the first rod removed the weed and put it away, I then wound in the second rod which had even more weed on it. Once I got this mess up onto the pier it moved, somewhere in it was another doggie, it was soon released to back into the sea and with a break in the weather I rushed to the car and and headed home. A rough wet night but at least I got some fresh air and got fishing and to top it off I didn't blank, no rays this time but there's always another chance. I fished 3hours of the flood and high water was at 4.30am, baits were mackerel and sandeel.
