Equipment: 15ft surf rod with 3/0 pulley pennel at distance and 11ft bass rod with 3 hook flappers with B940 size 4 hooks in close.
Bait: Mackerel, Squid, Prawn, Mussel
Conditions: Storm, very rough, big swells, rain
Result: Blank

Last minute session to get out of the house not expecting to catch anything in these conditions but I thought maybe some whiting might be about and if I'm very lucky then maybe codling, I had one rod out with small hooks and small mussel/mackerel baits in close and then a massive squid/mackerel baits on 3/0 pulley pennel lashed as far as I could cast. The smaller baits were coming back looking like something had been nibbling on them but apart from that, no joy this time.

hard time of year now in a lot of places. evening into darkness would help, some places come alive once the light levels drop.

This is very true, especially over sand and shallow waters. A coming tide into darkness is transformative.
Many of the oceanic storm beaches in Mayo are utterly barren of life in daylight, yet come alive at dusk.
It's hard this time of year to go out in the dark and extra cold, but it is usually worth it.
The few Bass I have caught in Mayo have all come in mid-winter and at night.

Fair play to you Gonzo! you are due a red letter day soon! Those cliffs have always looked like they would produce, I've never tried them.
