Malahide Estuary 23.09.2020

#1 Post by Gonzo »

When: 23/09/2020
Where: Malahide Estuary Donabate Side
Who: Myself
Duration: 09:00-12:00
Low Water: 10:21
Equipment: 9ft spinning rod with 4000 reel.
Bait/Lures: Tacklehouse Feedshallow 128mm Bloodhead, 28g Kilty Catcher Chartreuse, Samson Subsurface Enticer, Pencil Sandeel Lure & an assortment of paddle tail sidewinders.
Conditions: Overcast and very chilly.
Result: Blank

I was told this spot is great for spinning with a Kilty lure over low tide, bit of a long walk down the beach from near the golf club though but I got there! There was a good few people fishing on both sides, some were bait fishing, others on the fly and a handful of people spinning/plugging including myself! I kept rotating lures, casting in all directions and moving around a bit but no joy. The only signs of life were the sprat hopping as I brought my lure in!

Putting in the hours, hopefully the fish start biting!

Often planned on heading down there but never just managed it. Have it starred on a map of a few spots I’m gonna try hit over the next couple weeks with lures in north Dublin.

Take it you were wading out a bit?

Yeah Malahide is probably the closest place for me to fish now since I had to sell my car and buy a bike.. I've found it's actually a pretty good place to fish! And no I wasn't wading that day, just standing on the edge trying to keep my feet dry  most other people there who were fishing were wading though!

Based in Swords too so have been finding myself heading to the High Rock side mostly out of laziness but a few weeks ago while there a guy beside caught a decent bass.

He was fishing for mackerel on feathers with his two sons and was using an extremely colourful lure as a weight. On the retrieve the bass took the lure and nearly snapped his rod. He hadn’t even known it was a bass!
