When: 20.09.2020
Where: Carrigaholt Pier
Duration: 13:00-16:00
Low Tide: 12:30
Equipment: Two of us on 4 rods with a mix of flappers, float, spinners & feathers
Bait: Frozen mack & sandeel
Conditions: Strong sunshine, no wind, muddy water.
Result: 1 Mackerel, 1 Dogfish, 2 Velvet Crabs, 1 Edible Crab, several smaller crabs.
Setup the rods for a mix with the intention of bottom fishing one each and spinning or float fishing the others.
Oh so many crabs...
All ground baits were assaulted by crabs on landing in sand.
Brought up a few crabs, most missing some appendages. One take-home sized edible crab made a jump to freedom as I pulled him out of the water.
I'll be bringing a drop net next time!
I caught a mackerel on a sprat spinner.
The dogfish took a mackerel strip on a flapper.
No interest shown in my float rig with any variation of mackerel/sandeel.
One of the many wee buggers
