Portrane Beach 01.09.2020

#1 Post by Gonzo »

When: 01/09/2020
Where: Portrane Beach
Duration: 20:00-00:30
High Water: 23:41
Equipment: 15ft beachcaster with rovex 9000 reel.
Bait/Lures: Single 2/0 aberdeen hook pulley rig with ragworm.
Conditions: Misty with rising red moon.
Result: 29cm flounder & 1 smoothhound

Went back to my usual favorite mark on Portrane beach to try for bass loaded up with ragworm from Rory's in Swords. About an hour into the session I got a little nudge on the rod tip to reel in a 29cm flounder, my personal best. Then just coming up to high tide I got a banging hit and a proper fight, thought it was a decent sized bass but turned out to be a roughly 2-3lb smoothhound, never caught one of those here before and got to see a lovely red moonrise so was happy out! :D

Red moon that is a sign of the start of the squid fertilization and it is the time to start fishing for them in close must head up to skerries pier for the next one or two
full moons ?
I have not fished in two years hoping to change that this year with anything ?

Not too bad at all. I reckon tonight is a good night for smoothies but I'm not going anywhere till I get new hooks. I'm missing too many on my blunt ones

nice wee flounder, should be a few flats moving in now that autumn is here.
