Equipment: 15ft beachcaster with rovex 9000 reel.
Bait/Lures: Single 2/0 aberdeen hook pulley rig with ragworm.
Conditions: Misty with rising red moon.
Result: 29cm flounder & 1 smoothhound


Went back to my usual favorite mark on Portrane beach to try for bass loaded up with ragworm from Rory's in Swords. About an hour into the session I got a little nudge on the rod tip to reel in a 29cm flounder, my personal best. Then just coming up to high tide I got a banging hit and a proper fight, thought it was a decent sized bass but turned out to be a roughly 2-3lb smoothhound, never caught one of those here before and got to see a lovely red moonrise so was happy out!

hmm well on one hand I've pretty much caught everything at Portrane beach now, on the other hand I didn't get anything for the table

Not too bad at all. I reckon tonight is a good night for smoothies but I'm not going anywhere till I get new hooks. I'm missing too many on my blunt ones
