Tope Pups

#1 Post by Dave F »

Had two tiny tope pups while scratching about today, about a foot long each, on rag tipped with squid. Had a big squid and sandeel wrap out at distance which didn't get a sniff all day. It wouldn't be a spot I've heard fished for tope before. Is the presence of pups a good indicator of adults about or do they have nurseries outside their usual areas?

Used get a lot of them in a spot on the Shannon, adults very scare after them unfortunately.

Often wondered the same thing myself.
Have seen a fair few tope pups caught along the East coast while targeting smoothounds.
