Having a run on small lures
Hi all, lately I’ve switched to using smaller lures for the Bass and have been having more success. I would normally use the usual bass lures, feed shallow, gunfish, congetobis etc, so lures about 5” or 6” but found the fish reluctant to commit. I switched to using a very light set up, 9’ dropshot rod and 2000 size reel with 15lb braid and 6lb leader, lures of 2.5” or smaller and I’m surprised at how well it’s going. Having plenty of fish in the region of 50cm to 60cm. Maybe it’s down to smaller lures making less of a splash (Not spooking fish) and lighter lines being harder for the fish to see? Maybe they are just more focussed on smaller bait fish? Either way, I’m happy to see more fish about this year, long may it continue. Anyone having similar experiences this year?

Re: Having a run on small lures
Could be a case of match the hatch i suppose, perhaps later in the year they wont be feeding on small stuff
I dunno maybe your lures are mimicking small bait fish
I had my first of the season on a 6inch dolive stick last week

Absolutely agree, I'm using a 10g toby on pretty much lrf gear, seems to work better.plenty of feed around maybe?

Hi, just reading older posts, did the smaller lures continue to work well later in the summer ? Thanks
