Plaice up north

Can anyone tell me is there anywhere in Derry or Donegal (or slightly further afield) that I could target plaice in the coming weeks, and if so what baits work best? I'm guessing rag tipped with squid? I've never caught one before, but then again I've never specifically targetted them before either.

I've heard they have deceptively large mouths and can handle decent sized baits?

Has anyone caught them from Lough Foyle?

Have had small ones from Dunree, around Mid April time or so. Do a search under Dunree, I have posted a couple of items relating to it and it will give you all directions etc. Only baits I ever used there were Mack, Squid and Sandeels (out of laziness!) Im sure worms would be a better bet all the same. Heading North this weekend and poss get a run out there on Sunday for an hour or two, will post up if I head out. HTH.

Dunree was actually in the back of my mind as I was posting that Pete - the point to the right hand side of the beach I was thinking. Maybe even the beach itself, near to where the wee stream flows in. Bound to hold flats.

Carrickarory Pier on the Foyle produces the odd one, especially casting out towards the Foyle mouth. If you aint got worms you aint gonna get them.

Just before you come ot Moville Irish Shamrock, usually has a few mussel dredgers tied alongside.

Spot on Shamrock......Had some nice varied bags there alright from time to time, bit of a trek out to it carrying all the gear etc but usually well worth it. I have never fished off the main beach but it absolutely must hold fish as there are loads from the point. If you fish either back in towards the main beach or straight out from the point you will pick them up.
