avoid boats snagging your line

#1 Post by m.b3 »

a friend of mine used this trick years ago from Dun laoighaire pier. anyone that has fished there knows how annoying the boats can be. there is nothing worse than putting on a decent bait and giving it a good blast out only to have to bring it all in a minute or to later as a boat passes by. he used to just slide a 1 ounce weight attatched to a snap link down his line. this changed the angle of the line keeping it out of harms way. u can still see bites as usual. it can be handy from the beaches too when a boat / jet skier comes along out of the blue- have one ready. u can add a snood to the link too if u like. cheers.......

i have seen match anglers doing this, they cast out a 2 hook flapper and then attach a third hook via a snap swivel and weight wade out with it and leaving it slide down the line giving a maximum spread of hook baits.
