Mad notion or bass fever

#1 Post by MC »

hiya folks, took a mad notion last week to go bass fishing and with my normal haunts a fair bit of distance ( Wexford) away I planned a north coast trip. With the wife working shifts and my own work the timing would have to be good, so watching weather sites and tide sites I choose a late tide on Monday night. Once I got bait sorted and gear ready I got a few hours sleep and I be fishing throughout the night and into the wee hours of the morning. Got to the mark and everything looks great the sun is setting and the surf is crashing and the excitement was building. So I quickly got set up and walked to my chosen spot and got a rod baited up with lug and cast out. By the time I retuned to the tripod a fellow angler had wondered over for a chat, he explained that he been here a few hours and only had a flounder but another angler who had just left had landed a fine bass on peeler crab and showed me the photo. He then gave me some peeler crab, very kind of him. So after a chat he left and quickly baited up the second rod with crab and lug and sent it out to the third breaker. This is where the excitement ends and baits came back in untouched, I didn't even manage to get a bite all night but did watch the sun come up and enjoyed getting out fishing, maybe next time.

Looks like that other lad caught your bass you'd want to warn him not to be fishing your spot in future [emoji23][emoji23]

Keep at it. I’ve been doing quite a bit of fishing in Wicklow/ Wexford lately. The bass are there. Most I’ve caught in very close. Fished morriscastle on Sunday (daytime) with serious gales and pulled in 3 bass above 4lb amongst numerous Turbot, Plaice and Flounder. Most of the flats were small but Bass were nice size. I’ve taken 3lb bass from Newcastle beach 2 weeks ago but I tried to fish it for a few hours yesterday and the weed was horrendous. Even tried just a weight and immediate retrieve and still got nailed. Gave up after an hour. Was a waste of time. Might give Greystones a blast this weekend. Tight lines
