Depends on how much your willing to spend, For a decent Kit you can get the Penn Surfblaster Roughstuff and 525 Mag for £225

Conoflex Nemesis Plus SLR. Nice rods which gets you into the rough stuff but has a bit of feel in it.

Heard some conflicting reports on the Nitra's ability in the rough stuff so I would check it out first. Haven't tried them myself. Use the SLR with SL20, 525 mag and SL30 no bother if it helps.

Daiwa Sandstorm 12ft - IF YOU CAN BEND IT

With your budget there are loads of rods/reels to choose from.

Greys Platinum got a good write up in this monts T.S.F.
Daiwa Supercast RGM or something even shinier
Cono-flex Nemisis plus/premier
Zziplex f1

The list goes on - but for you, it has to be the Sandstorm!

Rough ground reel has to be the 525 supermag, easy to control now and very robust. I have a friend who wouldn't touch a greys rod if you paid him, he had a pair of nitra's not 6 months old before they started to rust around the ring seats. The diawa TDXS is a fairly stiffish rod though I'm assuming you don't need to cast for miles, the supercast RGM is a good choice and coupled with a supermag will keep some of your cash in your pocket.

My mate hasn't mentioned any daiwa rough ground rods, he'd know as he's been developing and testing for Daiwa for the last 20 years. Not saying they aren't just I thought he would have said if they were though where we fish on the Norfolk coast there'snot a lot of call for rough ground rods. Maybe they'll test them up north.

The rod and reel you have chosen are top pieces of kit, great for rough ground but also pretty good for clean beaches too and you have enough in that rod to put a bait far enough (get a boat if u want to further). They are based on the old Amorphous Whiskers which still cost £200 secondhand if you can find one, daft really as you can get new for the same (TDXS). If your a big bloke go for the 13'3", 12'9" if not, trust me that 6" makes a difference.
