Shannon estuary

#1 Post by ShaneH »

Just in from a ray session on the shannon estuary. started fishing an hour earlier than what i should have meaning my line would be fishing dangerously close to a ledge but i said __ it and cast out my first bait of the day thinking noting would pick it up and as luck would have it 10 minutes later i was into a seriously hard fighting fish that hugged the bottom all the way in. as the fish got within 20 feet of the ledge i locked up the drag and applied pressure to try get the fish up in the water and over the ledge but as soon as i did that the fish decided to run resulting in that horrible snapping sound as my 18lb main line parts. ended the session with a conger bullhuss and a raymond

Squid and Bluey. Squid been one of the better baits to use on this part of the estuary

Thanks for that, much appreciated. Those blueys seem popular in the UK, don't see many bait/ tackle shops on the east coast stocking them? Great days fishing for you, I am hoping to land a Ray from the south coast during the Halloween mid term break!! Fingers crossed
