Galway - boat options?

Hi lads,

I'm moving to Galway in Aug/Sept & I have an Endeavour 500. Anyone know what my options are as far as marinas are concerned (location & costs)? Or are there any boat clubs where I could store the boat/trailer & use a slip?

I'd be very grateful for any pointers, cheers!

Which side of city are you planning to be based?

To be honest, I'm not sure yet

Most likely we'll be somewhere on the south or east side as my wife & I are both from Limerick (though have been living in Wales for the last 20yrs). Gotta wait till the kids are on school holidays & then come home for a spot of house hunting!

Though if there are good boat options to the west then I don't mind driving. I currently have a 40min drive to the boat club in Wales.

Hmmm pretty sure I posted a reply to your question but it isn't showing? Apologies if I somehow end up with a double post.

Anyway, I'm not sure where we're going to live yet but most probably to the south or east of the city as we're originally from Limerick. That said, I don't mind driving if there are good facilities to the west of Galway or even the north of Clare perhaps.

definitely stay east and south if you want to avoid crossing the most clogged city in ireland!
check out tarrae, new quay or ballyvaughan, handy if you are planning to do most in the inner bay
havent a clue about prices
there is also the galway bay sailing club in rinville oranmore, dont know how much use that would be either

Rinville is all well and good, but it does get busy, especially on weekends, a much quieter slipway which is quite near some good fishing spots is ballinacourty pier, within 10 minutes you can be fishing for ray, tope and even stingray. Quite a lot of the South Bay is unfished and only in recent years is starting to get a bit more recognition from boat anglers. So it's a good place to launch from (but is tide dependant, but there is a slip 'black weir' further back that you can launch at low too)

Cheers lads, really appreciate your help.

Took me a while to find Black Weir slip but Ballinacourty & Rinville were no probs. I found both Ballinacourty & Black weir inaccessible at low water so have stuck with Rinville for now as its pretty much useable at any stage of the tide plus it's the closest to me & the best maintained of those three - definitely not the quietest though, especially at weekends! Can't have it all I suppose

Any joy on the fishing front tho - the most important thing?!!?!

Shed loads of mackerel & herring (wasn't expecting those!) on the feathers, some nice pollack on the slow jigs, two small tope & one decent (guess 25-30lbs), and a spurdog.

I'm pretty pleased with that, as I've no clue of the area & I've only been out three times
