Sutton Dublin
Fished start of flood tide back of Sutton golf club Sunday 5th feb. Fished 2 hours using soft plastics for flounder but no luck. This was second attempt at Sutton and both blanks. Is there a particular time of year for Sutton when flounder are there? Normally flounder are present at other venues in wexford around now. Any advice welcome.

Soft plastics for flounders? You wanna be using bait there unless plugging for bass

Re: Sutton Dublin
Hi ste c
They work at other FLOUNDER venues. Check out lrf site Arklow and Wicklow harbour so why not try there!! It GETS ME OUT OF THE HOUSE AND ITS LOCAL SO A BIT OF EXPERIMENTING. Anyway crabs would strip bait the minute it hits bottom. Have u fished that area? pm me if you like

Yes, there will be flounder at Sutton, but the tide strength limits your fishing window to about 30-40mins if fishing LRF. I would try inside Howth harbour walls. There will be loads there.

Another spot worth trying on a coming tide is the wooden bridge onto Dollymount - need to target the deeper channels and be there for the first two hours of the tide.

Re: Sutton Dublin
Thanks kieran lot of work going on there at the moment. Tried the point of Bull Island (where the seals are) today on turn of tide. Cycled beach from car parking area. Fished the flood for first 2 hours using soft plastic red 6 cm grubs with curly tail . No joy but am carrying on experimenting locally. Maybe wrong time of year or wrong weather and might try dropping tide just to cover that angle too. Will give wooden bridge a go soon. Again thanks!

Sutton fishes best for bass in end off Sept to end off October. Back off the old Baldoyle church is better for flounder on full tide .your right about bait there crabs will destroy it in seconds

Re: Sutton Dublin
Thanks ogie I walked beach from Sutton golf club towards Baldoyle church last year very flounder looking ground muddy and sinky . What time of year for there for flounders? Wexford best October to Feb but so far no sign of a flounder at least on soft plastics... maybe they are fussy up there and only take real baits ???

I've never fished it, but always though that the stretch from red rock right around the back of the hotel and elfin pub might be a good bass mark? Any thoughts?

Re: Sutton Dublin
Redrock in Sutton (yes that is what its called) used to be a decent mark for bass, so long as you fished around the old boat house ruins (not sure if they are still there).
It was always a spot for plugging rather than bait fishing as it is very snaggy. Used to fish it in the autumn, but that is 30 years ago (**** I'm now officially old!).

Re: Sutton Dublin
Hi Lads
I fished the point of Bull island at high water and 1.5 hours of drop yesterday thursday with slug go s and didn't get a touch. It was weed free and water was fairly clear. A seal hung around for a while prob wondering what eejit expected to catch fish here this time of year! Any way nothing ventured nothing gained and it was nice to have an excuse to get out of the house for a while. I would expect the odd flounder to be around that area as it looks real flounder ground similar to lacken in wexford.
I havnt given up on it and will continue to muck about the area til fish start to show. Might try red rock area and wooden bridge next week again with variety of soft plastics. Will keep you posted

Thanks for that colin may get a spin up there. Dollymount is very close by and when i get an hour or two i slip over there with spin rod and soft plastics. Dont think any flounder around at the moment might be a bit early....any idea when they arrive at sutton /dollymount

Re: Sutton Dublin
not sure to be honest not a species I target that much. You would think Dollymount will throw them up alright, plenty of worm there for them to feed on!
I see people fishing for bass there at night time in summer & autumn months with bait! But they are hard to get!
