looking to buy a gilling/lure rod for boat fishing any advice

I use a 9 ft spinning rod. Its a penn powerstick pro. A 4000 size reel and 15lb braid. Flick out a jig head with whatever type of jelly lure you fancy. Let's face it the pollock are not too fussy most of the time. Slow retrieve or leave it in the rod holder if drifting with the drag set loose. Great fun when the reel starts going

If you want a light enough rod for lure fishing from the boat, you want something that is a little bit stiffer than what you might use for lure fishing for bass. Think more in the casting range of maybe 20-50 g, which would probably give you the ability to work jigs up to maybe 70 or 80 g.

Some rods will come with both a cast rating and a jig rating- but these might be more specialised jigging rods ~(and therefore more expensive)

My boat lure/jig rod was a lovely 8ft 10-40g spinning rod that I snapped the top off. I fitted a new tip ring - so it is now a good 7'6" rod with a very fast action- I have worked jigs up to 90g no problem. The fight off a 6-7lb pollock on that setup is just fantastic!
