Mulrany Pier 08/11/2015.

#1 Post by seank »

People: Danny, Myself

Duration: 5.30pm-7.30pm

Tide: Tide going

Weather: Met Eireann Status Yellow, Fairly Hairy

Bait: Mackeral, Sandeel.

Rigs: Running ledger, Flappers, Hi and Low rig

Results: Doggies,Whiting, Coalies.

So we decided to brave the elements even given the weather warning and we found relative shelter on the pier at Mulrany. In the two hours we had a fish on every cast, other than the numerous cast in which we lost our rigs on the snags just out from the pier. Have to invest in some weak links :  . Plenty of small whiting and coalies in the bay which are to be expected for the winter, and the doggies are still out in force to. We packed up at 7.30 as things were getting a bit to uncomfortable and tide had dropped to a level I usually find doesn't produce anything here.

Was happy to get out even given the weather, and it ended a few weeks of blanks so we cannot complain.. :D
Target for 2017: Tope, Bass, Specimen shore pollack, Specimen Sea trout, Turbot over 30cm, common skate

Do you reckon float fishing still be worth shot in the winter? I've had it in the head for ages to free line or put under a float a live bait in the tidal race . It could produce something rate on a spring ;) or may be a complete waste of time.
