People : Meself , my sis and Ed
Duration; 10thirty am til 6pm
TIde: high at 12thirty.
Weather: Light south west breeze
Bait : mack, squid and earthworms
Results: pollack, wrasse, thornback ray, dogs, conger, blennies, mack.
We'd planned to head down to kerry after stingers, but as we only had 1 day to do what fishing needed doing, the trek to kerry was off the cards. So I hatched a couple of marks/plans - all of which could be implemented on the day , depending on the weather as each forecast changed daily, so decided to just see how it was on the day. I'd no time to buy/dig lug or get any rag so earthworms from the salmon fridge would have to suffice.. set off early and got to mark an hour or so before high water. right away I decided to see if there were mack , launce or big pollack about, wanted to stock the bait fridge and my belly. but only small pollack about, but something big and reddish/orange kept attacking my jelly eel right at my feet - off with the jelly worm, on with 2 very wriggly earthworms. dropped the wriggling jig head back down and whammo, lovely wrasse! the plan was decided so- we'll play with these for a time. there were plenty of them, up to about 2.5lb. again I went back to tackle the pollack, but still none about, so after the tided had turned I decdied to look for the flat spikey ones. wasn't long before we had a steady flow of fish, mix of casts - dog/thornie/dog thornie. not hectic, but enough to keep interest. I'd put out the conger rod and within a short time was rewarded with a strap. My sis had come along more for the outdoors and reading/napping by the sea, but I set her up with the little ice rod, jig head and tip of mack and she had great fun tormenting the blennies and gobies in the pools, - it's not the size of the fish, just the presence of them that matters.
Ed managed to pick up 2 mack on sabikis while waiting between thornies, but no others proved to be about. thought about fishin over low and into the flood for huss but time constraints had us having to pack up at 6pm. still nice to see some species and some fish, so many blanks or very very slow sessions have been had of late..
attached is a clip of a ray release..

Re: Connemara fishin'
Great read, improvisation and fishing - nothing like a nice mixed bag lads.
Always wanted to fish down that way, though I must admit, the lake out the front of the abbey is the number one spot on my list for the white trout. I think I could sit there all day and never get a pull and still be happy - fishing paradise!
