Level Wind Lever Drag Reel's

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

Shimano Charter Special is a good reel. The retrieve is a little slow for deep water work, but they're good value for money.

Have a couple of charter specials they are not as robust as the Penn's. I use a Penn 320 LD very solid reel. They have to put up with abuse as I am very lazy when it comes to servicing. :D

New Penn's in that price range are made in China I was told and are simply not as solid as the previous models. I recently bought an Okuma levelwind which so far does the trick. I'm currently in the market for some 80lb standup kit and looking at Okuma for the reels as well...

your correct Yappo but as long as you dont fill it to the outer guide ring on the spool with braid there should be no issues!

Ive decided against level winds now. was using a Penn level wind reel the weekend just gone and it pinched several times , lost a big conger because of it so im now officially done with them ....guess ill just stoo being lay and get the thumb out !
