Casting 101 for a beginner

#1 Post by JMC95 »

Hi guys,

First summer out properly fishing from the shore, hoping someone here would have some tips or links they wouldn't mind sharing to help me improve my casting.
I'm hitting 70 or so yards with a 5 oz on a 13ft beachcaster.

Cheers in advance.

Easier in person, if you are anywhere near Wicklow I can meet up and run you through things,,,

what kind of set up are you using - for example

13 foot rod - make and model? Some are softer than others, and this impacts the distance / technique
spinning or multiplier reel?
line type and diameter/breaking strain?
Type of rig typically used?
any issues (like a bad back - me!) which rules some techniques in and out...

But as paddy says, doing it in person with someone is the very best option...

If you can, meet Paddy. I guarantee you be up to 120, 130 in a very short space of time.
