North Wexford Mark - 12/06/15

#1 Post by krisreid »

Who: Joe and I.
Duration: 8pm to 2.30am
Tide: high at approx 21:00
Weather: Very Mild, Not a breadth of wind. Few showers late on. Calm sea.
Bait: Crab and Rag
Rigs: Pennels and Flappers.
Results: Smoothies, pups, Doggies, Pin Whiting, Dab, Plaice, Thornback (Specimen :D )

Report:

Hadn't been out in a few months, always taking about fishing with a friend in work. It was decided we'd head out for a late session Sunday after agreement from the missus and kids! Friend had been getting some Nice Smoothies at this mark recently. He also had a chunky bass. Didn't know the chap was a pro, some serious gear and well organised.

Arrived at around 8pm and got down to business. First up was a few pups, always a good sign. After a half hour or so the rod took a right rattle. In came a decent enough smoothound. Was very thin for its length but gave a good pull back which is always fun. Few more pups between us over the next while.

Then came the plague.... Doggy after doggy after doggy etc (a dozen between us). Keeping us busy I suppose!

Bit after bite for the first few hours. Great stuff. Then all of a sudden it went quietish. Looked up and Mr Seal was about.

Few doubles of pin whiting followed, knew they were there, nibbling at baits all night. Joe then had a nice wee plaice followed by me with a wee dab.

Honestly a couple of huge bits missed. It's hard to know when to pull and when to leave. Joe had one in half way which got off, had a right bend in the Rod.

Then a turn up for the books. Too small to even notice on the line, a beautiful, tiny little Thornback Ray. We were only talking about how much we'd love one and it looked like the right mark. Next time we'll bring some fish baits and see what the craic is.

Great night altogether and nice knowing the new section of the N11 is open so it'll take 10 mins off the journey from Dublin.

Few pics below .

Cheers

Kris
