Gill nets

Was told this today but a half decker fishing gill nets landed 31 boxes of pollock into Killybegs during the week. Nearly make you cry :(

how long would that gill net have been left out to catch so much pollack? :x

2-3 days tops - otherwise those caught first would be rotting and have every crab in the place eating the lot. Often just overnight.

A neighbour of mine who own a trawler which operates from Dunmore East in Waterford, told me that while the trawlers down there have been getting very few cod, a gill netter last week landed 200 boxes of Cod , taken from local wrecks.
