I was after being watching the weather over the last two weeks and i decided to have a go for the shad last friday, so at 5.30 am i packed the car and left the house.
I was about 20 miles down the road when the penny droped, i did not pack the scales,so turned around and headed back to the house, so at 6.15 i headed off for the day, i got down to st mullins at 8.00am.
On my first cast i had a follow in from a really big shad which turned away about 5 feet out for the bank, on my second cast i had a small male shad, on my third cast i got a fish of 1.290 kg after that the shad were coming on every second cast for about 3 hours.
I weighed about 20 fish ranging from 1.100 kg to 1.195 kg and i got about 20 -30 smaller shad, around mid day i got stuck into a really big fish, at first i thought it might have being a salmon because of splash it made in the river, after a brillent fight i landed the fish, it was 1.450 kg and 51cm long.
The fishing slowed downd in the afternoon but the shad were still feeding and got about another 20 fish, all were under 1.00 kg so at 7.00 pm i decided to head for home after a really pleasent days fishing.

I was using the same lure all day, the blue and silver tasmanian, the best of the fishing was early in the morning.

Re: St Mullins shad fishing
Fished it yesterday for 5 hours, maybe had 10 fish and this was about average.
Best of fishing seems to be past but there are still fish in the river, including some specimens.
