I have been looking to try and discover a reasonably accessible rock mark for pollock fishing so I have somewhere to go when the ban is on.
A bit of Google mapping plus consulting charts found a point that seemed on the money. The charts indicated the point gave straight into water 7-10 metres deep.
After parking it was an easy enough walk to get to the rocks- no abseiling needed!
The southern side of the point was exposed to the prevailing swell and was too dangerous to fish. I fished the sheltered northern side.
First cast was with a shad on a jig head. Straight away the hook was snagging in the kelp. Switched to a weedless setup.
For the next two hours I tried loads of different lures, different styles and colours to try and pick out what the pollock might have liked. Not a touch.
The only thing I can think of that may have defeated me was water clarity. There was a greenish tinge to the water and visibility was down to a couple of feet.
The hunt goes on !

Well you got out at least. For these kind of discovery trips it's well worth to bring along a float and some maddies, rag and a crab or two. While you are spinning flick out the float and see if there is a few wrasse around. Mental fishing if you hit them.
