Wexford

#1 Post by Bob »

People: me

Duration: 5pm to 11pm

Tide: high at approx 9pm

Weather: mild, light southerly breeze with flat calm and coloured water

Bait:lug, lug and crab

Rigs: three hook flapper with size 4 hooks, pulley pennell with size 1/0 hooks

Results: dab, flounder, dogfish, smooth hound

Report:

I arrived at the mark after collecting the bait to be greeted with a light variable breeze and flat calm conditions. The sea was coloured and thankfully there was no weed. Conditions were perfect for smooth hounds, albeit a little early in the year.

Fishing at distance I picked up a large dogfish, followed by a double shot of a nice plump dab and a smooth hound pup. Lots of crab activity meant baits were coming back stripped regularly. A few more pups and dabs followed. The evening was finished off with a plucky flounder who gave a great rattling bite.

A lad who fished beside me lost a decent smooth hound in the surf, reaffirming their presence amongst the pups. It's just a pity I couldn't find one.
