3000 size Spinning Reel

#1 Post by Tightlines2015 »

Can anyone recommend a good 'bang for buck' 3000 size spinning reel. Currently I'm using a 4000 Abu Garcia spinning reel (which is great) . Need another reel now to match a second rod, I know shimano rarenium are reported to be an excellent reel but my budget won't stretch that far at the moment, any ideas would be appreciated

Not sure what your budget is tightlines, but there are 2 reels that come to mind straight away that are about half the price of the Rarenium.

the Diawa Exeller 3000 €124 http://absolutefishing.ie/Shop/index.ph ... cts_id=239
and the Shimano Aernos 3000 € 116 http://www.henrystackleshop.com/product ... ts_id/3648

Both reels are very good quality and exellent value for money. I use the Shimano Aernos 3000 myself and I love it.

While Id love to support local business and tackle shops, at the prices they charge they make it difficult for me to warrant it. Maybe have a chat and see if they can match the prices shown below.

Ive bought reels from here before and their prices are very keen. Last reel I bought was €12 shipping by DHL. As its EU purchased there wont be any additional charges (excise, VAT) as there would be from further afield.

Id also stick with a Shimano, just personal preference as I didnt get on with Daiwa reels. I also send my reels to Shimano Felindre in Wales for servicing. Always had good service.

That Technium for €95 is a cracking reel for the price and you wont go too far wrong with that. I used one for a few years and could not fault it one bit.

Ive never used a Stradic but they get good praise from owners.

I gave the 4000 one to my mate, I still cant believe it still works after the abuse he put it trough. It was used on the shore +boat for mackerel fishing with 2ounce weights it was stood on buried in sand and drowned and it still goes.

I have a shimano aernos 2500fb & a shimano catana 4000rb , both catch good fish. With the 4000rb I can quickly adjust the clutch but don't throw above 35g with it. Caught some cracking fish on the 2500 on a light rod.

Recently bought a 2500 and 3000 daiwa exceler (2015 model) as back-up's to my main reels. For the price (€100, cheaper if you can haggle) they are incredible value. Super smooth, perfect line lay, come with spare spool.

I can't speak for them from a longevity point of view yet, but IMHO these are the best reels in this price range, bar none. Seriously, seriously impressed with them. Henrys have them in stock, not up on their website yet.

Hi all,,

Cheers for the replies and info. I finally decided on the new Shimano rarenium 3000 - this reel can be bought at a very reasonable price from www.fishingtackle24.de .

I currently use the Shimano Aernos 3000 on a light rod for plugging for bass. Being getting lots of use over the last year.. theres no signs of corrosion and the bearings are still perfectly smooth

Great value for money

At the moment, I have an aernos and a technium. The aernos is just as good in my opinion. I've had bad experiences with newer, mid-range penn reels. I reckon the aernos' balance of price vs quality is as good as it gets. If your budget allows, I'd say get one.
If you can't stretch to the aernos, the Abu cardinal reels are way underrated at their price point , but I don't think they make a saltwater specific 3000 size? The surecatch unity range are supposed to be great bit I've yet to use one!

I happened to call into John O'Brien's in Waterford a few weeks back, nice shop he has there!
I was poking and looking around when I saw three familiar boxes on the shelf: Three Unity 45's :)
There was a €90.00 price tag. I'm sure you'd get a discount if you mention here etc. etc.
A lovely reel that will take a fair bit of abuse!
