Re: Jimmy Smith, Munster 15th Nov
To be fished on the Slob Bank in darkness.
I for one will not be there and I won't be the only one not willing to fish that venue at night.
I have made my views known to the organising club

Re: Jimmy Smith, Munster 15th Nov
Was it not so long ago that the Master Shore night session could not be fished over health & safety concerns as I believe that the National Recorder would not sign off on this night venue.Has the safety officer carried out a risk assessment on the
venue will it be covered by insurance in the event of claim. A claim was made against a certain club after holding a night comp on the slob after a dog suffered an injury the following day after a trace was left behind. the federation did not cover the claim. What is wrong with fishing Youghal beach , when this comp was fished there in 2010 the fishing was excellent and the juniors were catered for on their own stretch of beach. Will there be juniors fishing the slob?. I for one and 20 other anglersthat have made known to me that that will not partake in the comp because of the safety concerns regarding the venue, Maybe the organizers should recommend the wearing of life jackets and a safety boat on standby. Is the venue chosen for the small fish brigade.

Re: Jimmy Smith, Munster 15th Nov
I stand to be corrected here but when the most recent fish offs were held at the start of the year I don't think any life jackets or lifeboats were required ! .However there were several lifebuoy rings placed along the bank [officially sourced] which was an excellant idea and a definite requirement with the possibility of a large number of anglers in very close proximity to each other.
For what its worth I don't like fishing the slob in darkness as I find it too hard to see the dog crap and its only when on the way home and my eyes start to water with the smell that I know ive put my foot in it again.

the fish-offs night session was moved due to adverse weather conditions. there was a night session which ran off superbly without incident with around 500 fish recorded
no claim was ever made against any club in relation to the dog incident you're referring to there was a complaint and it was dealt with by the organizers and the ifsa

Re: Jimmy Smith, Munster 15th Nov
I'm looking forward to it myself last time I fished the Slob I had 23 fish and wasn't in the top 15. I have fished a good few comps and munsters on Youghal beach and have heard nothing but lads saying "Why aren't we on the Slob Bank" when Youghal hides the fish on us. Looking forward to it the weekend I believe over 70 anglers are entered. Best of luck to all making the trip.

Fished this venue for the first time, I don't see issue with health and safety, it's just like fishing from a large pier. You have firm flat ground under your feet very comfortable to fish from And plenty of good quality fish. The organizers got this spot on. Well done lads and thanks
