Specimen Pollack?
People: 2
Duration: 6-7 hours
Tide:low to high
Weather:crackin
Bait:lures
Results:bakers dozen pollack,1 wrasse
Report:
We had been doin a bit of pollack fishing lately and decided to hit a deep water mark at low tide, travelling light we bounced small jellies along the bottom but after having a number of jellies bitten off under the hook and follows from wrasse to the surface we changed to bigger lures and targeted pollack.
Alan had the first hit, a fine fish about 7lbs and the first landed. Not long after he had his second fish this one was bigger close to 8 and a half maybe even 9 lbs ,took abit longer to get him in aswell as the fight was a tough one with the pollack going deep and the line going solid. After that Al had a flurry of smaller fish while i kept missing hits and getting foul-ups.. untill my first fish of the day was landed, a solid 3 lbs, off the mark after meeting at least 5 fish.
Al wasn't to be out done and kept hooking into fish from 3 to 7 lbs, with a bigger swell in mid tide i switched to a heavier weight and thats when I got hit and hit hard! this fish outclassed all the others, after a few powerful head shakes he ran hard a number of times,Al shouted "is it a bass?" and my heart skipped a beat. Once again the line went stiff as he had lodged himself in somewhere but thankfully came back out and I got him to the surface for a short glimpse before he ran back down to the deep, this time my heart stopped! "A double figure pollack" i shouted back. We finally got him in for a few pics and released him, he went back as healty as all the others. Of course not having a scales or even a ruler to measure the fish we just had to guess.. we figure just about 13 lbs.. bigger then either of us have seen from the shore,we were stunned!
A few more small pollack followed but it begin to quiten down so back we went after the wrasse and finally landed one before setting our sights for home, what a day:)
