East Cork Sunday 29/6/2014

#1 Post by Dave78 »

myself, John and Ian:

9 hours :

4 1/2 before HT and 4 1/2 after:

Sunshine , a bit chilly at nightfall:

Prawn, Razorfish, lug, rag, mackerel, squid, peeler:

Pulley pennel, 1 up 1 down flapper, 2 up 1 down flapper, running ledger, pulley rigs:

5 dogfish( on squid and mackerel), 1 dab(Lug) and a strap conger(mackerel):

Headed East on sunday hoping to take in a few flatties before high-tide in the daylight, the plan was to fish right through the dropping tide and change over to large mackerel baits for Ray as the night came in, tide height was good at 3.9m and no rain with some sunshine ,we fished 2 beaches east of Garryvoe with a plan to move after the drop to Ballycotton pier for conger after the Mackerel anglers had left.
We had to move 3 times due to the high level of weed in the water during a 5 hour period that resulted in a single dab, I had a nice frustrating hour standing in the surf watching mullet chase the rag worm on the end of my spinner before veering off at the last second each time.

In order to save the blank we eventually moved to the pier and set up, after a few hours we ended up with a strap conger and a half dozen doggies.

The second half of the plan worked out a bit, but the first half of the day was one to forget in fishing terms but my god what a view, the main thing is we all avoided the blank and now back to the drawing board for the weekend coming and a trip west this time for a bit of night time beach fishing and rock hopping.

One last thing, i'd love to see the weed watch rolling again, john has put up a weed report for us, i did the same last week I hope the info helps ;)
