Report: Heavy rain put paid to my fishing plans for Saturday but I had ordered bait so I was determined to get out on Sunday. After checking my list twice to make sure I had everything packed,,,I still managed to forget the most important item,,,the crab

, and had to turn back and get it

. After some heavy showers all the way down the N11,,,It cleared nicely for me when I arrived at my chosen location,,,,a favourite Bass mark of Fishfaces

. I got there first this week,,,,after craftily arriving an hour before Fishface, and set up the shelter in case it lashed. I needn't have bothered ,as it turned out a lovely evening after. I sent a crab bait out in search of a Smoothie into the flat calm sea ,, and sent out a two hook flapper with lug/mack on one hook and rag on the other. I had a doggie on the crab,,,,the first of many

. While baiting up ,,,I realised that my finger had a nice gash in it ( no good deed goes unpunished,,,,,I was helping a lad move his caravan from his garden when he caught my hand while putting the handbrake on

) and that the blood and guts from lug/rag etc would make things very uncomfortable for me. A quick call to Dr Fishface and he ensured that there were plasters on the way,,,,, I even got rubber gloves from him ,,,fair play to him. While he was getting me a plaster,,, I had a knock in close on the flapper. I lifted into it and realised I had a decent fish on

,,,,After a short battle I saw the big gob on him which confirmed it was a Bass,,,,thank you Lord

. I landed him , took a quick pic and after a short debate in my head,,,,decided to release this very welcome Billy as it was so near the Ban. I don't think he could believe it himself judging by the look on his face

. And speaking about looks on faces,,,,Fishfaces was priceless when he arrived with my medical supplies and saw the photo
What a start to a session, ,,a Bass in daylight a few days before the ban,,,I was happy out

. We both were getting dogs at distance on the pulleys and we were getting worried that they'd be around all night ,, but finally the smoothies arrived,,,just pups with the largest just about doggie size. Neil was getting them easier on the frozen crab, he must have had 5 or six to my three on fresh peeler. At least I was betting a few fish in close on the crab legs,,,with a nice little codling falling to a lug tipped with crab legs.
After darkness fell , Neil had a right tussle with a Bass,,,a couple of centimetres bigger than my one

,,,but in truth I was delighted for him. (I'd never have heard the end of it

).
Neil also released the fish,,, in truth he probably didn't want me to get all the praise for releasing mine
He had a Dab shortly after this,,,just to add to the species list. We were picking up whiting on the flappers in close and I thought I had a good fish which turned out to be 2 fish on one hook,,,,a hooked Smoothie and a doggie caught up in the line

. We packed up at 11pm,,,,two happy campers after one of our best sessions in ages
Not that i'd milk it or anything but I couldn't resist
