Fishing Canada: Anyone been there?

#1 Post by Tanglerat »

Thinking about a trip to Canada, anyone done any fishing there?

I'm not fussed what type of fishing, or whereabouts in the country, or what species. Probably be in June.

Anyone got any contacts/recommendations?

Post your question on this forum, someone will help you, I'm sure.

Make sure you tell them where in Canada, they have some good fishing at Niagra and the Great Lakes. I've heard the river are something else for the likes of Trout and Steelheads.

Good Luck.

Good one, thanks.

Point is, right now I really don't know where in Canada to go! All I told Mrs Tanglerat was that we'd go to Canada, now I've got to get it sorted right so's there's loads of fishing wherever we eventually end up........ :D

Tanglerat,

Does it have to be Canada, I know that the north east coast of the US has some great fishing, around New Jersey or the Outer Banks.

Very like our style of fishing with some big fish being caught. I know a couple of guys who could steer you onto some good marks.

North East Florida is a fantastic place to fish, around the St Augustine beaches is a dream to fish, Shark, Tarpon, Pompano, Rays as big as a blanket and many more all from the shore on very clean sandy beaches.

Yeah, Canada's pretty much the one..... her choice!

Given my way, I'd be off to Namibia, Kenya, Costa Rica, maybe Iceland. :D

This is going to take a bit of finessing.......

Hi tanglerat,

I've never managed to fish Canada, its always been in the planning stages! :x

Would have to say the West Coast, British Columbia & Vancouver island for awesome fishing. Don't know many places where you stand the chance of a 50lb + salmon. The east coast Nova scotia, Newfoundland etc is similar to the North East of the US. Though unless your staying within driving distance of the coast you'll be spending you time fishing lakes & rivers and as the country is so bloomin big you'll probably end up fishing rivers & lakes!

anyway have a few sites i've been looking through when i was thinking of going over, some give info on fishing regulations, licence requirements etc.

Tangle,

Go into Google Earth and have a look around the lakes and rivers in Canada.

Funny thing is the Canadian have a fantastic coastline east as well as west and I've spoken to loads of North Americans who say there should be some great fish stocks in the Canadian water but the Canadian dont fish for anything other than freshwater fish. Gear-wise they are back in the Ark.

I suppose it takes a forced holiday (no offence meant) for an angler to take the chance and find out for himself, as normally (unless your rich) you like to know what to expect before you spends ya money, right!

I know a couple of UK guys who went to Iceland a few years back, the photos would make your mouth water, massive Cod 30lb + every other chuck. Norway is the same for big Cod....me I hate the cold

Good Luck,
Tom.

There was a John Wilson fishing safari show on a few years back where he was fishing for Sturgeon in BC in the Fraser river…man they were some fish !!! There were plenty of Salmon about too must be seasonal opportunity (spawning time of year) as they were fishing for the Sturgeon with big balls of salmon eggs wrapped in pantyhose. The Sturgeon were huge 100+ pounds… Good Luck! :D

Tanglerat,

I see one of the boys told you that you could see Indians and feed wild birds with your hands. I was thinking, how come he knew so much about Temple Bar

How you getting on anyways...
