SE wexford 3/4/14

#1 Post by corbyeire »

People: me and fmd

Duration: 18.34 to 0015

Tide: high 21.00

Weather: mild and overcast

Bait: lug wraps mac sandeel crab razor

Rigs: 3 hook flap, 2 hook clipped

Results: coalies, flounder, dog

Report: went looking for minis again in a small harbour. maybe its still too cold. fmd was putting small bits of mac and sandeel in. few bites but no connection. i cast out the other side and to my surprise had to pull for a break on first cast. another local came down and told me it was snaggy but you can get it back most of the time. grabbed the 2nd rod same story. but just lost the bottom snood.

brought the first rod back in after seeing a knock and sure enough a doggy was on, but still had to avoid an obstacle course on way. with this i put on a single pulley and decided to put one rod inside the harbour. fmd still no joy so was thinking of moving. left the rod down in the harbour as i started packing up - wouldnt you know it a coalei 22cm on board with a large red shore crab - reckon it was more of the crabs that were biting to be honest!

moved on to a beach - had a surprise on the way down the woodent steps - 2 lads fishing with firelighters for light. thought they were scobes messing at the start. they had a few flounder coalies and whiting - so at least a few fish about

i was into coalies from the off - all round the 20cm mark. fmd had some also, then got a couple of flounder in 20s - as the tide ebbed the fishing died - the odd coalie here and there - that was it - stayed much longer than i planned

fishing not great but a really mild night to be out - the fishing will surely pick up soon

no, well to be honest yes, twice, but too much work with the 2 legged pests

think wexford sac have a comp in there once a year - it would be easier manage them in a group
