foyle 26/03/14
People: all by myself
Duration: 2 hours
Tide: coming in fast
Weather: wet/calm/warm
Bait: smelt
Rigs: Wessex rig
Results: sea trout /flounder
Headed out on my own today to kill a few hours as my origional plans were scuppered due my mate pulling out, belted two rods out well over 100 yards and withing about an hour I'd hit 5 small flounder around 20cm and two sea trout , one about 3/4lb and another about 4lb. The smaller one was released though the bigger one is in the oven as we speak lol cheers guys

Re: foyle 26/03/14
If there fresh in the foyle there are bright silver though once they have spent 2/3 days in the river there colour darkens down, I'm also under the impression a lot of these trout come in and never leave again because fat thick fish like this around 2/3lb mark are being caught all year round both by game fishermen targeting them and me trying to catch anything that moves lol

Re: foyle 26/03/14
Ive also in my youth caught mullet and whiting that where a brown dinge colour from the foyle and most of the plaice and flounder you catch are really dark also. Only the tail is the give away that there are plaice as the spots can't be seen on all catches, caught a sole last year aswell and it was absolutely black

Re: foyle 26/03/14
Great fishing. Out of interest, are there signs up at this mark to say that an Inland Fisheries Licence is required? Actually, it'd be Foyle extension licence would it? It seems to me that there's very little consistency in the distribution of these signs. Some places where you'll touch lucky for a trout once very 5 trips are covered in signs and others that are prolific have no signs!

Re: foyle 26/03/14
I've yet to see a sign anywhere in the foyle saying anything about licences , I myself have a dcal game licence with the foyle endorsement so I'm fine though to be honest if they every land over to me I'm not specificly fishing for trout though I do catch them and keep 4 or 5 per season , I would know the fisheries workers well and they usually know it's me when going past on there boat so they don't bother stopping

I agree with you there, no need in making that comment, if the lad wants to say his ten pound, leave him off... We anglers and we are for ever optimists...samo wrote:The one your holding up looks 2lb max
